The American gaze toward that part of the world is more heated now than it has been in long time, and France’s damning film could certainly intensify that. A major part of the problem, though, is that the global public hasn’t seemed to care all that much about what’s happening to gay men and women in Chechnya. This film could go just as unnoticed, then. Or it could change everything.”
